Back in LA

Waiting for the plane, so I'll post the first batch of LA pictures.

Went to the Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard. Truly brilliant display of French cars and complimentary Art Deco art and furnishings.

Update: Added more photos from the last day at The Grove, The Hollywood Museum and The Getty Villa in Malibu.

Las Vegas

Drove from the Grand Canyon to Vegas via the Hoover Dam.

Las Vegas is similar to the Soviet Union, there is a queue for everything. Food, taxis, admittance...

And everything is included in the price, unless it is something you might actually want. Then it is extra. Example, drinkable coffee at the breakfast buffet.

Having said that, I loved the place. It is vibrant and alive at any time of day. An impressive money hoovering machine.

Sedona & Jerome

Stayed in Sedona.

Like any place with beautiful scenery, native mystic culture and people with too much time and money, there is a whole industry of vortexes, energy, healing and woo-woo. Ignored that BS and took a jeep tour into the desert.

Also visited the historic towns of Cottonwood and Jerome. Jerome is an old mining town perched on a hillside. In the early 1900's it was named the "wickedest town in America" for all the boozing and whoring.

Leaving Tucson & Phoenix

Last two days in Tucson.

Visited the Titan Missile Museum, the last remaining Titan II silo. Then onto the San Xavier Mission.

I visited the Franklin Auto Museum dedicated to a car company that lasted from 1910 to 1934. Some revolutionary engineering including all air-cooled motors. Plus a visit to the Tucson  Gem Show, which was massive. Vicki will post more about this on her blog later.

Leaving Tucson early, we stopped at the Biosphere 2 and the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix. Dinner at Cooperstown and arrived late in the evening in Sedona.

Tucson Part 1

The first three days in Tucson, Arizona.

The gem shows are enormous. According to a New York Times article, 70% of the world's coloured gem stone supply passes through Tucson in February.

More scenic pictures to come in the next few days.

Los Angeles
